Wiley Coalesces Progressive Movement In Historic Change Candidacy For Mayor
New York — Today, New York City mayoral candidate Maya Wiley received an endorsement from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14). Following recent endorsements from NYPAN, The Working Families Party, Assembly Members Davila and Gallagher, Senator Salazar, and District Leader Nemir-Olivares, the endorsement announcement solidified Wiley’s position as the clear progressive choice ahead of the Democratic mayoral primary election on June 22nd.
“Having the support of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez means the world to me,” said Maya Wiley. “AOC is a fearless champion for our city in Congress. She has fought for working people, taken-on corporate greed, revolutionized the discussion on the urgent need to address climate change, and is an advocate for a more equitable economy. Nobody says and means change like her. And with AOC’s help, we are going to win this race and bring the change we need to the city we love. I am honored to have her support behind our movement and am looking forward to working hand-in-hand to deliver a reimagined New York City that works for and protects ALL New Yorkers.”
At an event today at City Hall Park, alongside Maya Wiley, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez said, “It is so important that we come together as a movement and rank Maya #1, because if we don’t come together as a movement, we will get a New York City built by and for billionaires. We need to be a city by and for working people, so we will vote for Maya #1, and we will rank in a way that maximizes the possibility of a New York for the many… these are the stakes. Maya Wiley is the one. She will be a progressive in Gracie Mansion.”
The endorsements have surged on the heels of another dominant debate performance by Maya Wiley on Wednesday night and added to her growing support from progressive leaders, elected officials and organizations.
